Apartheid

The system of institutionalised racial segregation and discrimination enforced by the white minority National Party government in South Africa from 1948 to 1994 — it classified all South Africans by race, enforced residential and social separation, denied political rights to the Black majority, and was ultimately dismantled through internal resistance (led by the ANC and Nelson Mandela), international sanctions, and negotiated transition to democracy.
