World geography is tested heavily in UPSC Prelims every year — straits and choke points (GS2/GS3), countries in news (GS2), physical features, disputed territories, and continent-wise facts. This hub links to dedicated subpages for each region.

Map-Reading Tips for UPSC

Prelims pattern: Questions appear as "Which of the following countries shares a border with X?" or "The strait connecting A and B is —" or "Identify the country/river/pass on the map."

Mains pattern (GS1/GS2): "Discuss the strategic significance of [strait/region]"; "Explain the geopolitical importance of [country/location]."

What to memorise: Straits (which seas/oceans they connect), countries bordering disputed zones, continent-wise major rivers and mountain ranges, and locations of key current-affairs countries.
