What is the current status and key details of UPPSC PCS 2025 and 2026?

UPPSC PCS 2025 is at the interview stage: the Mains result (17 Sep 2026) called 2,297 candidates for 812 interview-based vacancies (814 in all), with interviews scheduled from 28 Sep to 24 Oct 2026. PCS 2026 (about 500 posts) has its Prelims proposed for 6 Dec 2026.

UPPSC Combined State/Upper Subordinate Services (PCS) is conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (uppsc.up.nic.in). Two cycles are live as of 22 September 2026.

Vacancies: the February 2025 advertisement estimated about 200 PCS posts. By the Mains result, UPPSC put the total at 814 vacancies across 28 post types: 812 filled through written exam plus interview, and 2 through the written exam alone. The same Prelims also served Assistant Conservator of Forest / Range Forest Officer recruitment, which is why some reports quote a larger combined figure. The Mains result is subject to a pending writ petition, as UPPSC's own notice states.

Eligibility (PCS 2026 notification)

Education: a bachelor's degree from a recognised university by the last date (some posts need specific qualifications).
Age: 21 to 40 years as on 1 July 2026 (born between 2 July 1986 and 1 July 2005).
Relaxation: +5 years for SC, ST and OBC of Uttar Pradesh (and some other UP groups); +15 years for persons with disabilities of UP; ex-servicemen as per the notification; new in 2026, up to 3 years for Chief Minister Fellowship research scholars. Reservation and age relaxation apply only to permanent residents of UP.

Exam Scheme (PCS 2025 and 2026 advertisements)

Prelims: two objective papers of 200 marks and 2 hours each: Paper I (General Studies, 150 questions) and Paper II (CSAT, 100 questions). Paper II is qualifying at 33%; merit is decided on Paper I alone. One-third of a question's marks is deducted for each wrong answer.

Interview: 100 marks. Candidates called to Mains number about 15 times the vacancies, and to interview about 3 times.

Mentor Tip

With no optional subject, UPPSC Mains rewards breadth across six compulsory GS papers. Give Uttar Pradesh's own history, economy and governance a dedicated module rather than treating them as an afterthought, and practise General Hindi and the essay, which together carry 300 marks.

Correction (22 Sep 2026): an earlier version of this answer gave "930 vacancies" in its summary (the February 2025 advertisement estimated about 200, and UPPSC later put the total at 814) and an OBC upper age limit of 43 (the notification gives +5 years, i.e. 45).
