Can I apply to multiple State PCS exams in the same year?
Yes — there's no rule against it. Many aspirants write 3–5 State PCS exams in a year alongside UPSC. Just ensure dates don't clash (most State Prelims are in Aug–Nov) and that you can travel to centres (most require physical presence).
If I'm not a state resident, can I still apply?
Most State PCS exams are formally open to all India residents (UPPSC, BPSC, MPPSC, RPSC, etc.). However:
Hard domicile requirement: TNPSC, JKPSC, Kerala PSC.
Non-domicile treated as Open (no reservation): Most others — you can apply but won't get OBC/SC/ST relaxation even if you have a central reservation.
Non-domicile age cap: CGPSC limits non-Chhattisgarh candidates to age 30.
How does this compare to UPSC?
UPSC: Max age 32 (General), 6 attempts. Most State PCS: Max age 35–44 (General), attempts usually unlimited. State PCS is a great parallel/fallback option. Plus most State PCS syllabi heavily overlap with UPSC GS — same prep, two exams.
Which State PCS has the highest upper age?
TGPSC (Telangana): 44 General, 49 SC/ST, 54 PwBD.
APPSC (Andhra): 42 General, 47 SC/ST.

Do State PCS exams have language requirements?
Yes — many require regional language proficiency:
Marathi: MPSC (read/write/speak required)
Bengali: WBCS
Tamil: TNPSC
Gujarati: GPSC
Punjabi (Matric level): PPSC
Telugu/Urdu: APPSC, TGPSC (desirable)

Why are some State PCS attempt caps so strict?
States with attempt caps (MPSC, KPSC-Karnataka, JKPSC) cite limited posts and the desire to maintain a "freshness" of candidates. UPSC has 6 (General) attempts; some states match this, others give unlimited until age limit.
