Vision MAHASAGAR
Mutual and Holistic Advancement of Security and Growth Across Regions, the expansion of Vision SAGAR to the wider Global South, announced by the Prime Minister during his visit to Mauritius in March 2025. MEA and the Ministry of Defence expand the acronym slightly differently; MEA's Lok Sabha answer of 4 April 2025 uses "Mutual and Holistic Advancement of Security and Growth Across Regions", while MoD's release of 24 March 2025 uses "Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security Across the Regions".
Context & Background
MAHASAGAR is the umbrella under which the Indian Navy launched its two maiden India-Africa initiatives in 2025, AIKEYME and IOS SAGAR, and under which MEA frames safer sea lanes, maritime domain awareness and anti-piracy cooperation with African partners.
